The scene moved from an underground based community to a large sphere of good prod makers…I have to disagree with you when you say that demos are meaningless.
They actually mean a lot…it is an aesthetic experience, which can even reach the deepest emotions.

It is actually very surprising (and interesting) to me that you are even a computer graphics programmers and you don’t get the demoscene. I mean, I have met people who could understand the technical properties of a demo but they couldn’t get the reason and they were linux geeks or people who studied programming, not just some games who wonder why it’s not playable. And now someone who even understands graphics programming? Maybe the greatest thing with demos is that they are meaningless

Finally!!! ATi released 8.12 catalyst… and FINALLY this works on my HD3870!!! I’d seen it on a 7900GT before… but at 1680×1050 on a HD3870, it blew me sideways! cracking
I ‘ve run the demo on my computer and it’s far better than the actual vidéo posted on youtube…Quality is not the same..It’s obvious when you see it on computer ^^
It’s the best Demo I’ve seen in my life….Not only for graphisme but also for the music..totally amazing!
It’s good that this is here, but if you can, do yourself a favor: DON’T WATCH IT. Run the actual demo itself on a modern computer with a good GFX card and a good set of speakers. IMHO this is the best demo that has ever been created. It helped me through some tough times. Long way from copperbars and sine scrollers, I tell you what.
I remember when I watched this first time, avi version due to sucky pc. On ASD logo tears started to drop, on color bars my blood pressure accelerated, in the bathroom my life has changed, at the moon scene I died as a man with fullfilled life.

unbelievable
just run this now 1680 x 1050 and oh my. This is the first time i have acually seen my LG monitor actually light up like that. Was amazing to watch and was incredibly smooth all the way through. Bravo on this one.
Of course its far better to watch it in a decently high resolution in realtime instead of this video.
